HPV Vaccination
Since September 2008 there has been a national programme to give girls aged 12 to 13 a vaccine against cervical cancer (HPV). This age group is usually in Year 8 at schools in England.
The programme is delivered through secondary schools and consists of three injections, each one given every six weeks, although they can all be given over a period of 12 months.
In the UK, from September 2008 to July 2010, at least 4 million doses of Cervarix (the HPV vaccine) have been given.
Before we had the vaccination, the Wrenbloggers asked people how they felt about getting it.
Many people said they were scared, and didn't want to have it. Then we asked people that already had it how they felt afterwards. Most people felt fine, but some felt dizzy and sick.
The year 8 girls are having their second injection in 4 weeks.

Year 8 Trip to Tate Modern
On Monday year 8 went to the famous Tate Modern in central London, to see the weird and wonderful creations there. It gave us a chance to take a look at the designs and have a go drawing some of the things we saw there. It was great experience and we hope to go back there when all the building work is complete in the future.

Team SuperSchools!
Team SuperSchools is a great experience for all children out there.
At Wren Academy we were lucky enough to take part in great fitness activities. We also had a gold medalist Larry Achike who represents Great Britain.
Everyone had a once in a life time opportunity to meet him and have a photo with him.
Remember to raise money as half of it goes to our PE department. We are trying to raise money for a roof on the MUGA and half of it goes to charity!

Inter-house Dance Compition
Last Friday a inter-house dance competition took place in the assembly hall. Row by row the competitors stepped out onto the stage where they performed their dance routine. After each performance the judges, who were 3 teachers, would make their decision and the dancers would wait until everyone had performed. After that there was an anxious wait whilst the teachers decided who won. In the end a fantastic and amazing dancer in Year 7 called Daphne won!

The Bleep Test
If you are wondering what a bleep test is, it is a test to see how good your endurance is in running. You have to run in between cones and when you hear a bleep sound you have to run to the cones. There are levels and the higher the level the shorter amount of time you have to run to the cones. You keep running until you the point where you can't reach the cones in time before you hear the bleep.

Wren Academy specialises in architecture
Wren Academy specialises in architecture. All are classrooms have huge windows in them for light, safety and also to make sure there is no bullying going on (which has never happened in our school before). Students learn about the school's unique structure during focus days and in ADT (Art Design Technology) lessons. This allows us to learn another interesting subject which other schools don't have a chance to learn.
Children In Need 2011 Update
Charity fundraising enrichment has arranged a cake sale on November 18th for Children In Need - Break time in the restaurant - cakes start at £1.
We would really like you to join in because every penny you give will make a change!
The first ever Children In Need was a 5 minute radio broadcast in 1927, the first televised Children In Need was in 1950.
How good is Wren Academy?
Wren Academy is a great school because they make it exciting for all their students as they are always doing focus days and events where important people visit us. In the 2nd year of Wren Academy (2009), SOPHIE McKENZIE visited us and she talked about her inspiration to writing books like "Girl Missing" and "Blood Ties". Then in the 3rd year of Wren Academy (2010), JOE CRAIG visited us and talked about how you might get stuck in English when the teacher tells you to write a story; so he explained how to make it easier for us when in that situation. He also talked about his "Jimmy Coates" book series.
This is now the 4th year for Wren Academy and we're going to be visited by an Olympic athlete!
Who knows who might visit us next?!

Team Superschools visit
On Friday 11th November, Larry Achike, a gold medalist in triple jumping, is coming to Wren Academy. We will attend school in our P.E. kits and do 1 hour of physical activities. At the end of the day we will all meet back in the sports hall. The whole school will take part in this, however not all at the same time. We have each been collecting sponsorships for the last week, half of which will go to our school the rest to a charity that helps children who are naturally gifted athletes to train.

Year 8 Focus Day
On Monday the school had a focus day. The Year 8 focus day was based on the enviroment around us. We learnt about Penyore & Prasad; the people who designed our school, we created our own artwork and we really enjoyed doing the spray painting.
ADT after school club
Miss Yule has a drop in after school club for anything you want to do in ADT. This is on Tuesdays and Thursdays in D45 in her room. She welcomes all Years and lets you play music of your choice.

Congratulations everyone on your hard efforts!
All the money will go to the East Africa famine relief, where it will help with food, clothes and water resources.

Year 7 Football Match
On 11th of October the Year 7 football team went to Ashmole School and played a successful 2-1 win.
It was a tough match. We went 2-0 up before half time. It was a tense second half when there was a sudden break for our opponents. Joe, one of our defenders, went to close the ball down. He failed. The ball was crossed down the wing then played back into the middle and they scored from a header. We carried on with our heads high to hold of a brilliant team and win 2-1.

Yr7 Focus Day: St Paul's cathedral
On Monday 17th October Wren Academy had a focus day and the Year 7's went to St Paul's Cathedral and their House church. We learnt lots of new things like St Mary's Le Bow was the second most expensive church that Sir Christopher Wren designed. One of the main things we did when we were there was drawing the church and the parts of the building.
Here are pictures of the places we visited:
Focus day number two: Year 10
This focus day Year 10 were learning about drugs, the law, what effects there are and how it has ruined lives. We had a number of visitors. Darren Gold told Year 10 about his experience with drugs and how his children are the best highs he ever had and how he regrets his drug-taking. We also had a police officer who has been coming to Wren Academy since we were in Year 7 and most people know her from primary school. Officer Siobhan taught Year 10s about drugs and the law; she used examples about how they hid drugs in their clothes and how police officers would stop at nothing to find them. Also we had the Wren Academy teachers lead an activity which involved a photo story and in groups you had to create still images to show how to solve risks and how you should do the right thing. They also made us recognise the types of drugs and what to stay away from.
Y8 Football
I am afraid to say that with the football this week the Year 8 footbal team lost 5:0 to East Barnet, this is our worst loss and we are sorry that we did not win the match. We put in 120% effort but we couldn't get a goal in the net.
