Year 7 Science

In science, Year 7 have been learning about chemicals and how they react to things such as metals(zinc, copper), acids and other chemicals. We have also learnt about acids and alkalis and how they react, also about the differences between them.

The Forthcoming Year 7 Focus Day

On Monday the 17th of October all the Houses will be visiting St.Paul's Cathedral where we will be enjoying a workshop in sketching.  After that the different Houses will split up and visit their house churches. Strand will be viewing St Mary Le Strand. The Year 7s are looking forward to the trip and hope it will be a great succes.

Y8 Football

The Yr8 football team surprised the school by winning 3:2 against Compton. We played as well as we could, unfortunately we had no subs - we were all so exhausted by the end of the match!
Our coach (Mr Boal) guided us through the event. He helped us with the formations and he also chose the team that brought us closer to winning.

Year 9 Focus Day

A follow up from our previous focus day, we are carrying on choosing the perfect job preference that suits us. During the week we filled out a form and rated activities 1-14. We will be placed into groups with people who put the same preference, we will be spoken to by parents, teachers friends and other people outside of school. They will hopefully advise students who are interested in that certain career. Some of the options available were: law, pilot, design illustrations, architecture and many more.

GCSEs

In Year 10 students have started their three GCSE choices and the other GCSE subjects from History and Geography to ADT and Drama. There are also GCSE options where some students go to Friern Barnet for subjects like Spanish and Hair and Beauty. This shows that students are trusted with the responsibility to go that extra mile with learning. There are new subjects for example Business and Economics and also Music. There are subjects for more academic GCSE's also fun GCSES.  In ADT there is a mixture of topics that are being studied: Product Design and Fine Art and lots more. In history GCSE students are learning about America's history, for example the Economic boom. Drama students are doing improvisation and script work.

Business and Economics has some classes of only Wren students and some a mixture of Wren and Friern Barnet students.  Most business and Economic students have just started a new topic.  The first Topic Question was Can you beat the dragons?  The new question is Can you be the next Richard Branson? These GCSEs give students a chance to express different interests which they've not had the chance to do before.  It can also give students an idea for making sure that they know what job they want to do in the future from mathematician to lawyer.

English Yr7

This week in English Year 7 have been focusing on a book set in WW1; called Private Peaceful. They have been researching WW1 to help them understand the book better. Then they used their creative ideas and put all their information into a poster. The information about WW1 that they found helped them understand the emotions the characters were feeling. During their lessons they have been thinking about empathy and how individually they would feel if they were experiencing WW1 by writing a diary entry; describing how they would feel if they were living in trenches and doing some drama in pairs. One person was a news interviewer and the other a soldier. The reporter had to ask the soldier questions about life in WW1.
